Bleach Ep 190: The Unforgettable Showdown

bleach ep 190

The Arrancar Arc continues in Bleach episode 190, marking the true return of the story after a long and uneventful filler arc. While not contributing significantly to the overall plot, this batch of episodes is packed with memorable moments and thrilling fights. Let’s dive in and explore what happens!

Synopsis:

After celebrating the defeat of Grimmjow and the rescue of Orihime, Ichigo’s joy is short-lived as Espada #5 makes his appearance. Uryu and Renji continue their struggle against Szayelaporro Grantz and his experiments.

Please note that spoilers will be revealed from this point onwards.

The Good:

The episode picks up where it left off, with Ichigo, Inoue, and Nel preparing to find their friends. However, Espada #5, Nnoitra, arrives and mercilessly defeats Grimmjow and unleashes his fury on Ichigo. Nel, who Nnoitra recognizes as Neliel Tu Odelschwanck, undergoes a transformation, revealing her true power. A fierce battle ensues between Nel and her former ally, showcasing an unexpected twist that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Ichigo is saved by the timely arrival of Kenpachi, who reveals that Soul Society has sent four Captains and their Lieutenants to Hueco Mundo for assistance. Byakuya, Mayuri, Unohana, and their respective partners join the battle against the Espada. Byakuya encounters the Seventh Espada, Zommari, in a thrilling fight that showcases his strength and determination.

Skipping over the Szayelaporro fight for now (which will be discussed later), the episode culminates in an intense battle between Kenpachi and Nnoitra. It’s a brutal exchange of blows, with Kenpachi initially struggling to penetrate Nnoitra’s tough skin. However, Kenpachi’s determination and superior skills allow him to turn the tide and deliver a decisive blow. Nnoitra’s ultimate wish to die in a glorious fight is fulfilled as he falls defeated. The fight was visually captivating, even with the toned-down violence compared to the manga.

Before any celebration can begin, Espada member Stark appears and kidnaps Inoue, taking her to Aizen’s throne room. Aizen delivers a chilling message to all the Captains, lieutenants, and Ichigo’s crew, revealing his true intentions and setting the stage for more thrilling confrontations.

The Bad:

Unfortunately, the fight against Szayelaporro Grantz feels dragged out. Uryu, Renji, and their allies find themselves trapped in the same room where Grantz is waiting. Grantz’s abilities, including his Resurrección, become tiresome as he spawns duplicates of his enemies to fight them. Renji eventually destroys the lab by activating his duplicates’ Bankai simultaneously, angering Grantz.

Grantz reveals his next phase of power, absorbing Uryu and Renji and turning them into voodoo-like dolls. Mayuri intervenes and engages in a battle of wits with Grantz. Mayuri’s preparedness and cunning are on full display as he outsmarts Grantz and ultimately defeats him. The slow build-up and endless explanations detract from the overall enjoyment of this fight.

Overall Thoughts:

This section of the Arrancar Arc focuses on the defeat of Nnoitra and Szayelaporro, showcasing the abilities of three Captains who have already proven their strength in the previous arc. While it sets the stage for Ichigo’s rematch with Ulquiorra and sets the wheels in motion for upcoming episodes, it primarily serves as a fight-fest. While entertaining, it may not leave a lasting impression. However, before we continue with the fight against the Arrancar, an essential flashback arc awaits us.
