Chapter 6: Long Spear

Saito woke up the next morning, rubbing his eyes and sitting up straight. The events of the previous night had left everyone silent, and dinner had ended without any further conversation. Louise was still sound asleep, most likely exhausted from the previous day. Saito couldn’t help but think about his plan to involve the Gallian King, someone who had caused him and Louise so much pain. It was unforgivable. Saito couldn’t understand why Louise would disagree with his plan. After all, the Pope’s plan seemed like a much better option than constantly living in fear. Saito was lost in his thoughts when someone knocked on the door. Opening it, he was greeted by Julio, his heterochromic eyes sparkling with a mischievous smile.

“Morning, brother,” Julio greeted.

“There’s no such relationship between you and me!” Saito replied irritably.

Ignoring Saito’s annoyance, Julio continued, “Don’t say that, we’re both familiars, shouldn’t we be friendly towards each other?”

“Jerk. You’re not the type I want to get along with. No one ever knows whatever is on your mind. What business do you have, coming here so early?” Saito retorted.

Julio beckoned Saito and said, “There are things we want you to see.”

Curious, Saito followed Julio to the basement of the grand Cathedral. They entered a dark and damp underground tunnel, with weak fires illuminating the way. As they proceeded, the air grew colder, and Saito couldn’t help but shiver. Finally, they reached a pitch-black room, where Julio lit up all the lights simultaneously. What Saito saw inside left him speechless – guns, modern guns from Earth.

Saito couldn’t believe his eyes. He picked up one of the guns, feeling the weight in his hand. The marking on his left hand started to glow. These guns were from his world, from Earth. Beside the modern guns, there were also old guns and ancient weapons, all from Earth.

Julio explained that their spies had been collecting these weapons for centuries, and they believed that Saito, as Gandálfr, the familiar chosen to wield weapons, should be the rightful owner of these weapons. Saito was amazed but hesitant to join their cause. However, he accepted the weapons, knowing that they might be useful in the upcoming battle.

As they were about to leave, Saito turned back to look at the weapons, waiting silently in the dark. They were his “long spear”, the weapon he was meant to wield.

Back at the Cathedral, Agnes and Colbert had also come to see the Pope. Agnes, who had saved Vittorio’s mother, wanted to express her gratitude, while Colbert, who had unknowingly caused her death, wanted to receive his punishment. However, Vittorio showed no anger towards Colbert and instead blessed him. He believed that his mother’s execution was God’s verdict and that her actions were driven by her mistaken beliefs.

Colbert was shocked by Vittorio’s response, feeling both fear and admiration for the Pope’s unwavering faith. Vittorio’s blessings left Colbert with a sense of resolution and a renewed commitment to his beliefs.

As the chapter came to a close, Saito and Colbert carried the weight of their pasts and the weapons that would shape their futures. The stage was set for the next battle, where their true destinies would be revealed.
