Top Yuri Anime 2016: The Juiciest Secrets Revealed!

Hello, my lovely readers! Get ready to dive into the enchanting world of Yuri anime as we unveil the top picks of 2016. This intriguing list is a result of your valuable contributions and insightful suggestions. Without further ado, let’s get started! Remember, feel free to share your opinions and top picks in the comments below.

10. A Space for Your Favorites

First up, we have a special spot reserved for your personal favorites. For me, simply being told by someone that a series is Yuri isn’t enough to make it onto my top ten list. However, I firmly believe that fan perception plays a vital role in shaping the Yuri genre. So go ahead and insert your own series that you think deserves to be on this list!

8. A Tie Between Izetta, The Last Witch and Harmony

These two series deserve a mention due to the amount of Yuri (or Yuri service) they offered this year. Whether you see them as “Yuri” or interpret it as akogare, loyalty, or friendship is entirely up to you. Izetta, The Last Witch is available on Crunchyroll, while Harmony can be enjoyed on Amazon Video or through the DVD/Blu-ray combo from Funimation.

7. Riddle Story of Devil

This series may lean more towards “Yuri because they said so” rather than substantively Yuri. However, it does feature one canon couple and another by the end. While it didn’t quite meet my expectations, it also didn’t turn out as bad as I initially feared. I’m looking forward to revisiting the series with Funimation’s home video release.

6. Magical Girl Raising Project

Sister Nana and Winterprison form a canonical couple in this series. However, their story takes a dark turn, which places it towards the bottom of the list. If you’re seeking cool anime to watch, be warned that not all the endings in this mature genre are happy. If you’re interested in reviewing this series for us, please do let me know!

5. Cross Ange: Rondo of Angel and Dragon

Mariko S’s compelling argument in her Guest Review for Okazu secured this entry on the list. Although the series includes Yuri as a plot element, it balances between being a service and a genuine Yuri portrayal. It’s refreshing to have canonically lesbian characters in a series. Cross Ange: Rondo of Angel and Dragon is available on Crunchyroll.

4. Flip Flappers

This series made the list not due to my opinion, but because of the passionate defense by multiple fans who interpret it as a queer narrative. I’m almost convinced to give it a try myself! If you have already watched it and would like to contribute a guest review, feel free to contact me. Flip Flappers is available on Crunchyroll.

3. Sailor Moon Crystal, Season 3: The Manga Comes to Life

Sailor Moon Crystal is an absolute delight, especially in its third season. It truly captures the essence of Takeuchi Naoko’s vision and depicts the tender embrace between Haruka and Michiru that we’ve longed to see. That’s why it secures a spot as my third-best Yuri anime of the year. You can catch Sailor Moon Crystal, Season 3 on Crunchyroll or Viz’s website. Physical copies will eventually be available on DVD and Blu-ray.

2. Yuri Kuma Arashi: Beyond Expectations

No Yuri anime list would be complete without Yuri Kuma Arashi. This anime takes the Yuri genre to new heights, with characters brought to life from the brilliant mind of Morishima Akiko. The story, from beginning to end, is undeniably Yuri in every aspect, sometimes bordering on obsession. The English release by Funimation in 2016 makes it a series worth revisiting. You can watch Yuri Kuma Arashi on Crunchyroll or grab the DVD/Blu-ray combo pack from Funimation.

1. Sailor Moon S: The Forever Queens of Yuri

And now, drumroll, please! The number one anime title of 2016 is none other than Sailor Moon S. For almost 15 years, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune have reigned as the queens of Yuri, captivating our hearts with their struggle to live and die together. They continue to be the reason I’m here, and I’m sure many of you feel the same. Sailor Moon S is available to stream on Viz’s website and on DVD/Blu-ray combo from Viz Media.

If Haruka and Michiru grace our screens in any given year, they will always triumph and win our hearts. That’s why Sailor Moon S is undoubtedly my top Yuri anime for 2016 and for all time.

Get ready to embark on a Yuri anime marathon filled with love, passion, and captivating narratives. We hope this list satisfies your cravings for the juiciest secrets of the Yuri genre. Don’t forget to check out Fecomic for more exciting content like this!
