Creator Of Soul Eater

It’s been a while since we last heard from Atsushi Ohkubo, the brilliant mind behind Soul Eater. Although the popular supernatural shonen manga series concluded in 2013, its legacy lives on, captivating new fans every day. And just when we thought Halloween was over, Ohkubo surprises us with a special tribute to one of Soul Eater’s beloved characters, Maka Albarn.

Ohkubo himself shared this incredible artwork on X (Twitter), and we can’t help but be mesmerized. The sketch features Maka in her signature uniform and twin tails, holding Soul in his scythe form. It’s safe to say that if any kishin were to appear, Maka and Soul would be more than ready to handle the situation.

This delightful surprise from Ohkubo couldn’t have come at a better time. Halloween may have passed, but it gave Soul Eater a well-deserved popularity boost. We owe thanks to Megan Thee Stallion, the talented rapper who showcased her Soul Eater costume on social media. Megan channeled Death the Kid, and Ohkubo himself shared her stunning cosplay. Now, his tribute to Maka feels even more timely.

For those who are new to Soul Eater, fear not! The anime adaptation, which has its own unique ending, is readily available on Hulu and Crunchyroll. If you prefer the manga, you can easily find both print and digital copies on Amazon. If you’re curious about Soul Eater, here’s a brief synopsis:

“Maka is a weapon meister, determined to transform her partner, Soul Eater, into a powerful death scythe – the ultimate weapon wielded by Death himself. Their mission is to collect and consume the corrupted souls of ninety-nine humans and one witch. Alongside their fellow meisters, they face off against the peculiar and dangerous minions of the underworld. However, their own personal quirks might prove to be an even greater challenge than any sultry enchantress.”
