The search for Filo has finally come to a heartwarming conclusion in the latest episode of The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2. While most of the episode focused on finding Raphtalia, the unexpected discovery of Filo added another layer of enjoyment to the storyline.

Filo’s Return

The search for Filo is officially over. However, the second time around, finding Filo didn’t hold the same emotional weight. It was not because the viewers knew the outcome, but rather the manner in which she was found felt a bit forced. Despite everything that happened to Filo in Kizuna’s world with Naofumi and Rishia, it seemed too coincidental for Naofumi to hear Filo’s cries in a town they randomly stumbled upon while searching for Raphtalia. Even Naofumi himself expressed his hope of finding Filo there. Nevertheless, the reunion was well-executed, with Filo reacting exactly as expected—crying and clinging to Naofumi.

But there was one brief moment that made the reunion perfect—Naofumi was the only one who recognized Filo, despite her being a completely different species in Kizuna’s world. This showed that, despite Raphtalia’s search taking center stage, Filo remained a priority for Naofumi.

The Cute Shikigamis Are Here To Stay

As mentioned in the previous episode’s preview, Naofumi created his own Shikigami using his blood and strands of Raphtalia’s hair. Now named Raph-chan, thanks to Filo, this adorable raccoon Shikigami serves as Naofumi’s only way of knowing if Raphtalia is still alive. In the light novel, Naofumi named his Shikigami almost instantly, but in the anime, it was Filo who gave the name Raph-chan.

Apart from being a cute mascot, a personal GPS, and a lifeline to determine someone’s well-being, it seems that the Shikigamis will play a consistent role going forward, regardless of how small it may be.

The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 9 has maintained its position in our weekly top-10 poll.
