As we indulge in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece, it’s impossible not to compare it to the original anime. The portrayal of characters is one of the most striking differences between the two mediums.

One Piece live action versus anime: 5 characters missing from the Netflix adaptation

  1. Gaimon
  2. Jango
  3. Johnny and Yosaku
  4. Hachi

Gaimon

One Piece live action versus anime: The character Gaimon is missing from the Netflix series

In the anime, the Straw Hat Pirates encounter Gaimon early on in their journey. They stumble upon the Island of Rare Animals, where Gaimon has been living inside a treasure chest for two decades. Unfortunately, the live-action adaptation didn’t include this quirky character.

Jango

Jango in One Piece anime

Jango, a hypnotist and subordinate of Captain Kuro, possesses the unique ability to hypnotize people using a pendulum. However, he was absent from Syrup Village in the live-action adaptation.

Johnny and Yosaku

Johnny and Yosaku in One Piece anime

Johnny and Yosaku are relatively inexperienced bounty hunters who join the Straw Hat Pirates during the Baratie Arc. They accompany the crew on their adventures until the events of the Arlong Park Arc. However, they didn’t make an appearance in the live-action version.

Hachi

Hachi in One Piece anime

Hachi, an octopus fish-man and former member of the Arlong Pirates, possesses incredible skill in wielding six swords simultaneously. While he starts as an antagonist, his character gradually becomes more sympathetic in the Arlong Park Arc. Unfortunately, Hachi was left out of the live-action adaptation.

These missing characters were beloved by fans of the anime, and their absence in the live-action version has been disappointing. Despite this, the live action rendition of One Piece still offers a fresh perspective on the beloved series.
